I Really Am Rubbish At Keeping This Up
The title of this post says it all…….
Twitter has come up trumps today on the music front with free tunes from @I_Skream, @HighRankin. & @putmeonit (if you’re not following them all ready, I suggest you do!)
Skream awoke in a good mood (must of been the sunshine) and decided to share with the world some music sadly not making it to his new album, Outside The Box, out July 26th, but still well worth a listen.
“I’m gonna give a zip of free tunes out today… I’m in a good mood” he tweeted, and the said zip file, Freeizm Vol 1, can be downloaded here or you can get em here if u want.
I’m loving all 4 of the tracks, although my favourite has to be “Show Me Love” which is a trip back in time to the late 90′s garage scene but with a new twist!
Keep em peeled for 2 further volumes of “Freeizm” in the run up to the album launch.
High Rankin has posted yet another free mix on his Suicide Dub website.
Another banging mix 40 min mix, full of shameless self promotion and heavy bass featuring a selection of tunes from High Rankin’s upcoming EP.(With a dash of Tom Waits at the end to add a touch of class!)
If you like a bit of bass in ya life then grab these freebies whilst there hot and share em with the world!
For something on a slightly different vibe but still brilliant and perfectly suited to the summer time, the lovely folks at Put Me On It have released Volume #21 of the “We Love” series, packed with 30 tracks of glorious hip hop. (with a few surprises thrown it too)
Click the link to the Put Me On It blog and get downloading, whilst there make sure you check the back catalogue for more gems.
So there you have it, more free music than you can shake a stick at, perfect for the summer time. Get it, have a listen and let me know what you think.
So I have a friend who is in the final stages of her art access course and is off to university in September to study illustration. As i type she is preparing for her final exhibition.
Ruth is 24, she lives and studies in Birmingham. Her art has always been a hobby since school but after working in the rat race for a few years she decided to take the plunge and get back into education, and take that hobby further.
I think she is quite talented, but then she is my mate so I guess i’m biased.
It’s probably best that you take a better look for yourself and click here to see more.
Ruth has asked me to let you know that the blog has not been updated for a little while as she has been busy preparing for her finals, and it’s a little disjointed as it was posted so that prospective universities could see some of her portfolio. But she has told me it will be updated with her new work as soon as she is finished. So keep ya eyes on her blog and check back soon to see her new work.
Be nice and leave her a comment if you see something you like.
Through the joy that is Twitter I came across @Mystrogen and his occasional series on Spinetv.net “Mystro Investigates” Where the big man, er, investigates shit!
From horses to monster trucks via coffee and clay pigeon shooting. he and his magnifying glass have investigated em all, in handy 6 min segments he gets to the bottom of things leaving no stone unturned!
If you fancy a giggle then check it out.
Not content with investigating everything with his investigating feet Mystro is a established UK hip hop artist
Also peek his music on here He’s a man of many talents, if you like what you hear then check out his L.P on iTunes and hit him up on Twitter
Go on expand your horizons!
So I know a man who knows a man who knows a dog who ate a cat who tipped me off to the world of Orsii…….
…….and her rather splendid radio show, mixes and blog
(well actually it was Seeds who tipped me off, not a man, cat or dog, check him out here) http://nanageddon.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/history-of-the-future/
Orsii can be found on twitter @Orsii and she has blog here orsii.com
She presents a radio show on Laid Back Radio call “Little Miss Sunshine” where her eclectic tastes are laid bare for all to hear, you can catch the archive of previous shows here LMS
Orsii also has a number of mixes on mixcloud where you can delve deeper into her musical musings.
If you like your music laid back or nice and loud then Orsii is the girl for you, she’s plays it all and everything inbetween, the genre don’t matter just so long as it’s a good tune!
Hit her up on Twitter and say hi if you like what you hear and keep em peeled for Little Miss Sunshine, she’ll brighten up your day!
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, or so the saying goes.
Well it was reported in the Daily Fail last week, that a (not very scientific) experiment was carried out by “Britain’s leading charisma expert” Nikki Owen. And the results of the afore mentioned experiment were that saying nice things to yourself, and thinking positive thoughts can keep you young looking!!
Quite a claim there Ms Owen, and whilst i’m all for positive thinking I do have to question the experiment that was used to back up this claim. Ms Owen took an apple, cut it in half, placed the two halves in two jars, one with a rather fetching “Love” sticker on it, the other “Hate”. And just what did Ms Owens’ then do? Well for a week she said nothing but nice things to the half in the jar marked love, and was rather spiteful to the jar marked hate.
The results of this were the half in the hate jar showed slightly more decomposition than the half in the love jar, and from this Ms Owens’ declared that this is proof that being nice to apples, or yourself can hold back father time!!! Er…yeah right!
To my eyes there was not a great deal of difference in the halves and the extra decomposition could have simply been the result of the knife used to cut the apple having more microbes on one side of it than the other. Or even latent bacteria was more prevalent in the hate jar than in the jar of love.
Anyway you get the picture by now, this is hardly a news story and even less a scientific one and certainly not one to be taken seriously, yet many people do. (As seen from the comments posted on the original article)
Thankfully I’m not the only one to feel this way and Rebecca Watson @rebeccawatson founder of Skepchick has taken it upon herself to attempt to reproduced the results of the experiment, this time including a control piece of apple which will only have “Meh” said to it over the week, therefore receiving no positive or negative thoughts. Rebecca will be posting a daily video of the progress of the apple and i’ll put those up on here so you can see for yourself just what a load of bunkum talking to an apple or yourself in order to hold back the ravages of time is!
There is also a Facebook group here set up by Rebecca where if you want you can replicate the experiment and post your results.
Massive props to Rebecca for taking the time to talk to the apples and give them moustaches
Ow da ya like dem apples?!!
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Days 4 & 5
Day 6 (staring Sid as Rebecca has lost her voice, but for constancy it’s her words he reads to the apples)
Better late than never, the not so scientific conclusion to the Great Apple experiment
So what did we learn from all this apple love hate? Well as you may have suspected from the outset, being nice to an apple in a jar does not prevent or slow down it’s decay and being evil to an apple does not speed up the mould either, SHOCK HORROR!
But maybe saying “Meh” to an neutral bit of apple is the way forward!
I’m pretty big user of Stumbleupon and have been for a long time, this means I spend hours clicking a little button in the corner of my browser in search of weird and wonderful sites, sometimes it turns up some gems, and this is one of em!
The Stuntkid aka Jason Levesque is an photographer and illustrator from Chesapeake, Virginia and his work is amazing.
I especially like his illustrations which have quite a dark and twisted edge, like this…..
…….which is right up my ally.
But enough words from me, you want to see pictures don’t ya, so click the link and take a look
I’ve linked to his illustrations but there is much more around his site so please do take a look at his photos too.
Ok so i thought i’d give a big hello and a little wave to my fellow blogger, Seedy Ron, TreacleTown’s master of music, merriment and general mirth.
I first meet Seeds a couple of years back when I was manager of a establishment which furnished Seeds with alcoholic beverages in exchange for him adding a dash of colour to the walls of said establishment, via the medium of graffiti. Once he had decorated the place, Seeds and the Big Dirty crew were responsible for bringing dubsteps finest,Caspa and Rusko to Birmingham for the 1st time and shaking Digbeth to it’s core.
Any-ways time moves on, as did Seeds and I, and now Seeds spends his time between The Midlands and ‘ol London town, with a fortnightly radio show here and an album in the pipeline he’s a busy fella, but he still finds time to regularly blog about his exploits and forthcoming antics here on the History Of The Future
I urge you to check HOTF (part of the Vice blogging network) for an insiders view of the UK hip-hop scene, general jokes and all things in-between
Big up SR
Here’s Seed’s view on the Xfactor, have a listen
This looks good for a giggle, Chris Morris always comes through from, The Day Today and Brass Eye (who can forget “Peadogeddon” or “Cake”) to “Denholm Reynholm” in The IT Crowd. And now he’s turning his attention to the not-very-controversial-at-all subject of er, suicide bombers!! Given his past form and judging by the trailer this has all the potential to amuse the majority and outrage those who miss the point.
See for yourself and let me know what you think.
